7 Private School Curriculums modified for Homeschooling
If you’re considering homeschooling but want the same high-quality education that private Christian schools offer, you’re in the right place! Many top private schools use structured, rigorous curriculums—and the good news is that many of these programs have been adapted for homeschoolers. In this article, I’ll share 7 private school curriculums you can use at home, how they work, and what makes them unique.
Some of these are so easy that your kids can work independently, giving you more time to focus on other things.
Let’s dive in!
1. Abeka
Abeka is one of the most widely used Christian school curriculums and has been around for decades.
It’s used in private schools like Top Kids Christian Academy and Premier Christian Academy and offers a traditional, structured approach to education.
But it’s also used extensively as Christian homeschool curriculum.
How Abeka Works for Homeschoolers
Abeka offers video lessons, where the teacher teaches a live class and then directly addresses homeschool students watching from home.
It’s known for being rigorous—so if you’re looking for a challenging program that will push your kids academically, this is it!
I used Abeka as a homeschooler myself 30 years ago. In terms of difficulty level, it’s definitely around the upper levels.
This program really gives kids great prep for college, however, don’t be afraid to skip extra work put in the curriculum…because there’s a lot to do and you can end up burned out as a parent if you’re not skipping extra work that your child already knows.
Cost
A full grade level with video lessons and physical workbooks costs around $1,350 per year per student.
If you want an accredited version (see video above for more on this), there’s an additional cost.

2. BJU Press
When I started homeschooling, I wanted something that would give my kids a strong, Christian education but also be easy to implement.
That’s exactly why I chose BJU Press—and I love it.
This curriculum is widely used in Christian private schools like Bethany Christian Academy and Lifegate Christian School, but it’s also been beautifully adapted for homeschooling.
How BJU Press Works for Homeschoolers
One of the things that makes BJU Press stand out is the way they do video lessons. Unlike Abeka, which films a teacher in a classroom, BJU’s teachers speak directly to your child—it feels like a one-on-one tutoring session rather than a big classroom environment.
Every morning, I just say “Off you go”, and my son completes everything independently—from watching the lessons to filling out his workbooks. He even takes his own tests and leaves them on the table for me to grade!
And speaking of grading, once kids get a little older, BJU will actually grade their tests for you!
The lessons themselves are engaging, thorough, and biblically sound. The textbooks and workbooks are colorful and well-organized, making learning enjoyable while still challenging enough to push kids academically.
Cost
BJU Press is a little bit more affordable than Abeka, coming in at around $1,050 per student per year.
That includes video lessons, workbooks, and textbooks mailed right to your home.
If you want an accredited version, that’s available as well.
Why I Recommend BJU Press
Honestly, this curriculum has made my homeschool life so much easier.
My son is thriving with it, and I love that I can trust the content to be both academically excellent and biblically strong.
If you want a Christian homeschool curriculum that’s engaging, independent, and easy to implement, BJU Press is a fantastic option.

3. Veritas Press
If you’re interested in a Classical Christian education, Veritas Press is a great choice.
It’s used in schools like Veritas Classical Academy and follows the three-stage Classical learning model:
Elementary: Builds a strong foundation in reading and memorization.
Middle school: Teaches logic and reasoning skills.
High school: Focuses on rhetoric—learning to communicate persuasively.
How Veritas Press Works for Homeschoolers
Veritas offers LIVE online classes, allowing students to ask teachers questions in real time and interact with classmates.
Cost
Veritas is one of the more expensive options, ranging from $2,500 to $4,000 per year, depending on the number of live classes taken.
💡 Tip: If your state offers ESA funding, you may be able to get this curriculum fully covered!

4. Memoria Press
If you love the Classical model but don’t want to pay for live lessons, Memoria Press is a more affordable option.
It’s used in private schools like Highlands Latin School.
How Memoria Press Works for Homeschoolers
Memoria Press offers self-paced learning with physical workbooks instead of online classes.
You can reuse textbooks for younger children, making it a budget-friendly option for families with multiple kids.
Cost
A full-year package ranges from $460 to $1,400, depending on the grade level.

5. Acellus / Power Homeschool
Acellus Academy is an online private school, and Power Homeschool is the homeschool version of this curriculum.
How Power Homeschool Works for Homeschoolers
This program uses smart technology to assess what your child already knows and adjust lessons accordingly.
If your child understands a concept, it skips ahead. If they struggle, it slows down and provides more practice.
Cost
One of the cheapest options at $31/month or $300 per year.
🚨 Why I Don’t Use It
This is a secular curriculum, and I personally believe a homeschool program should bring kids closer to Christ. If a curriculum excludes Jesus, it’s missing the most important piece of a well-rounded education.

6. Ignite Christian Academy & Monarch
If you want a Christian online private school, Ignite Christian Academy is a great choice.
But if you want a homeschool version at a lower cost, you can use Monarch.
How Monarch Works for Homeschoolers
Monarch is self-paced and includes interactive lessons, but it doesn’t include teacher support like Ignite does.
Monarch is a completely online homeschool curriculum.
That means there’s no books, but everything is online.
This keeps costs low, but can be a lot of screentime.
Cost
Ignite Christian Academy: More expensive, since it includes teacher interaction.
Monarch: $39/month or $390 per year, making it much more affordable.

7. ACE Paces
ACE Paces is one of the most affordable Christian homeschool curriculums, used in both private schools and homeschool settings.
How ACE Paces Works for Homeschoolers
ACE uses a self-paced workbook system, where kids complete one "PACE" workbook at a time, giving them a sense of accomplishment.
It’s also very independent, making it a great option for parents who want their children to work on their own.
Cost
One of the cheapest homeschool curriculums available.

🚨 Why I Personally Don’t Use ACE
I actually used ACE growing up, and while I respect its emphasis on Christian character, there’s a reason I don’t use it for my kids.
