Top 7 Music Appreciation Curriculums for 2025 (Homeschool Picks)
Which music appreciation course will actually get your kids excited about Mozart… and not just doodle a mustache on Bach’s face out of boredom?
If you’ve ever sat through a dry lesson on dead composers and thought, there has to be a better way, this post’s for you.
As a homeschool mom with a daughter obsessed with music (singing, piano, dramatic performances—you name it), I’ve tried lots of music appreciation programs to keep up with her passion. Today, I’m sharing five of my absolute favorites — a mix of tech-friendly and offline options that’ll help your kids actually appreciate music, not just memorize composer names.
By the end, you’ll have a clear idea of which course fits your family’s style, budget, and age range.

1. Music Comes Alive — The One My Daughter Binge-Read Like a Novel
With this curriculum, my daughter sat down for an entire day and just soaked herself in the books. No piano practice, no snack requests, just immersed in music appreciation.
Music Comes Alive (pictured above) is a done-for-you package that includes:
A main textbook
Literature books woven in (hello, cross-subject learning!)
Workbook pages
Easy access to actual music through QR codes or clickable links
Mostly offline (although you can do it on their neat online platform too if you wish), with some tech sprinkled in, this Christian-based course feels polished and intentional. Parents read with kids, fill out workbooks, and scan QR codes to listen to music pieces. Even though I only know a little piano, I learned so much alongside my daughter!
It costs around $170–$180 and is aimed at primary and elementary kids.
Who is it for? Families with younger children wanting a quality, structured music appreciation course.
Check it out here.
But what if your kid already knows who Bach is... and wants to argue about whether Vivaldi or Beethoven had more drama?
Let’s move to another option that suits all ages.
2. Music in Our Homeschool — The One My Daughter Kept Begging for More
I hit “play” on one video from this course, and my five-year-old said, “Can we watch another one? And another? And another?” While she didn’t get everything (she’s five), she soaked up rhythms and melodies she’ll carry for life.
Music in Our Homeschool (pictured above) is a more relaxed, video-based course with incredible breadth, including:
Composer studies
Music history overviews
Seasonal studies (Christmas carols, etc.)
Art + music combos
Charlotte Mason–inspired high school courses
A cartoon music appreciation course (my kids loved this!)
You can buy courses individually for lifetime access or subscribe:
$9/month for 8 courses
$39/month for 60+ courses
It’s Christian-friendly and great for middle and high schoolers, but also engaging for younger kids.
Who is it for? Families who want flexibility and variety with video lessons and multiple course options.

Alright, maybe you’re not into videos, and QR codes make you feel like you’re being tracked by the government.
Here’s a more classic, low-tech option with a storytelling focus.
3. Beautiful Feet Books — Literature-Inspired Music Appreciation
This one I haven’t personally used, but many homeschoolers love it. Known for literature-heavy, history-rich curricula, Beautiful Feet Books’ Music Appreciation & History course offers:
A hard copy teacher guide
A composer-themed literature book
A student notebook
A downloadable resource packet
With 54 lessons blending music appreciation and history, it’s not overtly Christian but leans wholesome and includes some Christian content. It’s mostly offline and costs about $75.
Who is it for? Literature-loving families wanting an affordable, offline music appreciation course for mid to upper elementary kids.

While it’s basic, it covers key composers and styles and provides plenty of opportunities to listen and appreciate music.

5. Schoolhouse Teachers — Appreciating the Gift of Music
Schoolhouse Teachers offers a course called Appreciating the Gift of Music, included with their full membership (alongside LOTS of other music appreciation courses….see them in the pic above…I couldn’t fit them all on the image!).
This platform has hundreds of courses spanning core subjects and electives, including music appreciation.
While not as polished as some of the dedicated courses above, it’s a solid choice for families wanting an all-in-one curriculum option that covers multiple kids and subjects in one place.
And you can get access to their basic schoolboxes with all core homeschool subjects as well as hundreds of electives (like music appreciation courses for young and old kids!)
