Choosing the best kindergarten homeschool curriculum can feel surprisingly stressful. After all, this is the year when many homeschool parents feel like they're finally starting "real school." You want your child to learn to read. You want them to enjoy learning. Many of us want our kids to have a strong biblical foundation. But we definitely don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a curriculum that ends up gathering dust on a shelf by October.
Trust me, I've been there.
When my daughter Penny started kindergarten, I spent far more time researching curriculum than I'd care to admit. I compared video programs, workbook programs, classical programs, Charlotte Mason programs, hands-on programs, and just about everything in between.
The good news?
There are some fantastic Christian kindergarten homeschool curriculum options available today.
The bad news?
They're all very different.
Some feel like a traditional classroom at home. Others feel more like story time around the couch. Some require a lot of parent involvement. Others help children become independent surprisingly quickly.
In this guide, I'll walk you through the best kindergarten homeschool curriculum programs available today, including what they teach, who they're best for, and perhaps most importantly—what they actually feel like to use.

If I were starting kindergarten again tomorrow and could only choose one complete curriculum, BJU Press Homeschool would probably be it.
BJU Press combines strong academics with a thoroughly biblical worldview. Unlike many programs that simply sprinkle a Bible verse here and there, Scripture is woven throughout the curriculum in a meaningful way.
The kindergarten program focuses on early reading, phonics, handwriting, math, Bible, science, and social studies while keeping lessons age-appropriate and engaging. Families can choose between teaching the lessons themselves or using the video lesson option (I much prefer this option).
And that's where things get interesting.
Our Experience
When Penny was kindergarten age, we’d actually used BJU's Focus on Fives program twice because I’d used it with my son three years before.
The first time, I taught it myself using the teacher's manual. The second time, we switched to the video lessons.
The difference was enormous.
Suddenly, I wasn't responsible for delivering every lesson. The teachers handled the instruction while I stepped into more of a support role.
As a busy homeschool mom, that was a game changer. That’s why I say pick the video lessons.
What It's Like to Use
For Mom
BJU Press feels like having a friendly co-teacher. The video teachers are warm, enthusiastic, and genuinely good at explaining concepts to young children.
Instead of constantly wondering what to teach next, you simply open the lesson and follow along. It's structured enough to give confidence but not so rigid that you feel trapped.
For Your Child

What I Like
One thing I consistently appreciate about BJU Press is how seriously they take both academics and biblical discipleship.
Too many kindergarten programs focus heavily on one while neglecting the other. BJU manages to balance both.
The phonics instruction is solid. The Bible lessons are meaningful. The video teachers are excellent.
And perhaps most importantly, the curriculum creates a pathway toward increasing independence in the later grades.
What I Don't Like
No curriculum is perfect. The biggest drawback for some families will be cost.
BJU isn't the cheapest option available. It can also feel more structured than some families want during the kindergarten years.
If your ideal homeschool day involves wandering through forests, baking muffins, and reading picture books under a tree, BJU may feel a little more formal than you're looking for.

What I Like
The curriculum does a beautiful job of protecting the wonder of childhood.
There is a warmth and gentleness to the program that many families find appealing. The Bible integration is also excellent.
What I Don't Like
As someone who isn't naturally crafty, I find some of the projects a little overwhelming. If you cry at the sight of a glue stick, this may not be your dream curriculum.
It also requires significant parent involvement. This is not a program you hand over to a child and walk away from.

Master Books feels relaxed. You aren't constantly checking the clock wondering how you'll finish everything. The lessons are short, straightforward, and easy to fit into a busy day.
For Your Child
Most children experience Master Books as low-pressure. Lessons are manageable and children often finish feeling successful rather than overwhelmed.
What I Like
The biggest strength of Master Books is simplicity. The lessons are open-and-go, easy to understand, and generally enjoyable to use.
The biblical worldview is also woven throughout the curriculum rather than tacked on as an afterthought.
What I Don't Like
The biggest criticism I hear—and one I've sometimes shared—is that Master Books can be a little gentle academically.
You may think that's not necessarily a problem in kindergarten. But if you have an advanced child, you may occasionally find yourself supplementing.
I wasted $100 on thier kindy homeschool curriculum which was too easy and wished I’d gotten the grade up!

For many families, the price tag alone is enough to make them take a closer look. And really, it's hard to argue with free.
What It's Like to Use
For Mom
Easy Peasy feels a little like treasure hunting.
Some days you'll discover an amazing lesson and wonder why more people aren't talking about it.
Other days you'll find yourself clicking through pages wondering where the lesson actually is.
For Your Child
Children who enjoy learning on a screen often do well. Children who dislike reading online sometimes struggle.
You can print out the material for free though.
Or you can buy kids their books, which are available on Amazon, to give kids an offline option too.
What I Like
The obvious advantage is cost.
Free curriculum allows families to start homeschooling immediately without making a huge financial investment.
There is also a surprising amount of content available.
What I Don't Like
I've previously come across some evolution-based content and links that I wasn't particularly thrilled about.
Because of that, I wouldn't personally use Easy Peasy as my primary Christian curriculum without carefully reviewing lessons myself.

EP is a great choice for some families:

Now let's talk about reading.
Because if there is one skill most kindergarten parents are thinking about, it's this one.
All About Reading is great for struggling readers or kids who want to learn to read in kindergarten with a hands-on approach.

What It's Like to Use
For Mom
All About Reading feels like sitting beside your child and watching puzzle pieces click together. Lessons only take 20 minutes a day, so it’s not too much for parents. The program is hands-on and requires your involvement, but many parents feel the results are worth every minute.
For Your Child
Reading feels more like a game than a lesson. There are activities, tiles, games, and readers specifically designed to build confidence.
What I Like
This is one of the most recommended reading programs in homeschooling for a reason. The instruction is systematic, explicit, and easy to follow.
I've heard more success stories about All About Reading than almost any other reading curriculum.
What I Don't Like
It's parent-intensive (but for only 20 min, right!).
There really isn't any way around that. You need to be present and engaged.
It also only solves the reading problem—you'll still need the rest of your curriculum.
It’s also secular, so that’s a big deal if you want to hear about Jesus lots in your curriculum!
